Established as a charitable foundation in 1995, the Coalition for Stronger Communities (CSC), Inc. provides a supporting role in educational, civic, literacy and charitable programs to the community we serve. CSC collaborates with non-profit organizations and area-wide programs to leverage financial resources and knowledge in pursuit of our mission. CSC is committed to building stronger communities through the promotion of scholastic excellence, health awareness, social change, personal and economic empowerment.

The CSC honors the legacies of Marie Marshall and Claudette Bennett by promoting scholastic excellence. Mrs. Marshall and Dr. Bennett were both educators, mentors, and community advocates. Mrs. Marshall was the first Chair of CSC and made great strides in building our foundation through its mission and partnerships within the community. Dr. Bennett, equally contributed to the foundation by serving not only as an active member as well as the Executive Director of the foundation. Dr. Bennett’s partnership and collaborations with city councilmen and women still continues as well as her strong commitment to providing scholarships to students living in Prince George’s and Charles counties.

In honor of Mrs. Marshall and Dr. Bennett, CSC awards up to $10,000 in scholarships to ambitious students to continue advancing their lives through the pursuit of post-secondary education. In addition to having demonstrated a strong academic performance, successful candidates possess complementary attributes that reflect leadership, service, and champion the CSC mission and vision of a thriving community. Scholarship recipients persevere through adversity and recognize the value of higher education as a vehicle to achieving long-term self-sustainability.
